| Probably most newcomer bands present themselves as the most innovative ones. And probably most music enthusiasts are sick of that, resulting from the fact that it’s just the same old crap over and over again. HOKUM is sick of claiming to have invented a completely new genre. No one needs stock phrases like "ultra aggressive guitars" and "back breaking bass tracks". Whoever visited one of their almost 100 gigs has experienced what really counts for the five thrash maniacs from Munich: Being progressive without diminishing the headbanging factor. Period. In order to do so you need a rhythm section knowing more than just 4/4-measures. You need solos which consist of more than three notes. You need more than two colors to describe a faceted world. And you need one collective idea. One band. Since their early teenage years, HOKUM have been making music together. That's why their band history already spans ten years, despite their young age. They were founded in 2000, a new drummer joined six years later and in 2008 they were backed up by an additional lead-singer. Five dudes, one style of music. Progressive Thrash Metal. The band already released two records as well as several demos - their debut album "Pi" (2008) being the most recent. Just like the other CDs it received very good reviews by the press. HOKUM has left behind the comparisons to other bands, due to the fact that the listeners can no longer compare them to one single band. In the end, all that matters is the music they make. One band. One style. One vision. |

| Die meisten Musikfans sind es wohl überdrüssig, dass sich jede zweite Newcomerband als die innovativsten Neuerschaffer präsentiert und dann doch wieder nur das alte Süppchen aufwärmt. HOKUM hat keinen Bock mehr, die selbe ausgelutschte Leier vom komplett neu erfundenen Musikstil mit "ultraaggressiven Gitarren" und einem "mörderischen Bass" herunterzubeten. Wer auf einem der annähernd 100 Konzerte der fünf Thrasher aus dem Münchener Norden war, der hat es schon selbst erfahren, worauf es ihnen ankommt: Progressivität, ohne den Headbangfaktor herunterzuschrauben. Punkt. Und dazu braucht es nunmal eine Rhythmusgruppe, die weiter als bis Vier zählen kann, Soli, die aus mehr als drei Noten bestehen, es braucht auch mehr als zwei Farben, um eine Welt voller Facetten zu beschreiben - und es braucht einen gemeinsamen Gedanken. Eine Band. HOKUM hat sich gefunden, und das bereits im frühen Teenageralter. Sie schaffen es dadurch trotz ihres jungen Alters schon auf zehn gemeinsame Bandjahre. 2000 gegründet, sechs Jahre später dann ein neuer Schlagzeuger und 2008 ein zusätzlicher Leadsänger. Fünf Leute, ein Musikstil. Progressive Thrash Metal. Die Band hat bereits zwei größere Releases sowie mehrere Demos herausgebracht, zuletzt das Debutalbum "Pi" im Jahr 2008. Wie die anderen CDs auch konnte diese überschwängliche Rezensionen aus der Presse einheimsen. Die Vergleiche mit den anderen Bands hat HOKUM mittlerweile hinter sich gelassen. Auch, weil es die Hörer nicht mehr schaffen, die Band auf einen einzelnen Bandvergleich zusammenzufassen. Und schließlich zählt nur, was musikalisch dabei rauskommt: Eine Band. Ein Musikstil. Eine eigene Vision. |
